We are excited to share the opportunity for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team and look forward to reviewing your resume.

As a Heavy Equipment Operator with Wilson Electric, you are responsible for working with our excavating division to get job sites ready for underground electrical.

Your experience in the following areas will drive your success in this role.

  • Operating excavating equipment on job sites
  • Reading and following design plans and specifications
  • Following all safety procedures on the job site and reporting any hazards to management
  • Loading, unloading, and identifying materials, machinery and tools and distributing them to appropriate locations, according to project specifications
  • Measure, mark, and record distances to layout areas where work will be performed
  • Digging ditches, trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers or rakes
  • Provide assistance for the crew

We have outlined the skill-set necessary for a candidate's success in this role below. 

  • Minimum of 5 years of heavy equipment experience in electrical or pipe trades
  • Valid driver license
  • Considerable knowledge of equipment operations and construction and maintenance procedures including pre-shift equipment inspections and daily logs
  • Must be competent and knowledgeable pertaining to OSHA excavation requirements
  • Must have a working knowledge of grades and blueprints and working in blue staked areas
  • Working knowledge of basic Electrical codes and layouts preferred
  • Must be able to travel between site locations

Physical Requirements

Work requires exposure to construction site environments having temperature extremes, dust, fumes, smoke, hazardous substances, and loud noise levels. Up to 70% of the job may include heavy physical work, heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of material that may weigh from 50 to 100 pounds. The position requires the incumbent to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds or aerial lifts, stand or walk for long periods, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, crawl and work in awkward positions or confined spaces for several hours at a time.

The position requires the unrestricted use of hands, arms, shoulders, and the upper and lower back as well as visual acuity and depth perception. Pulmonary capacity must be sufficient to permit the use of an air-purifying respirator if required.
