Safety & Training

WESC Mission Statement: “Building opportunities for people who care about exceptional performance and quality of life.”

We lead by example at Wilson Electric Services Corp., and our commitment to Safety is the common vision which has reinforced our longstanding commitment to provide a truly unique place for employees to not only earn a living, but carry out careers, as they evolve and grow with the industry we serve.

There are many components to the Safety culture of our company which reveals the perseverance engrained in our workmanship that defines who we are, what we do, and how we do things. Common to all of us, is the passion we have to guard the life we value through an agreement that nothing is more important to all of us than our commitment to work safely. The pressure of getting things done on schedule are important, but fall far short of the priority that each one of us return home at the end of the day as healthy and injury-free as we were when we came to work.

At Wilson Electric Services Corp., our safety metrics are reviewed formally on a quarterly basis in a group meeting, by our COO, all Division Managers, Superintendents, and the Safety Department. In a subsequent meeting, we meet with our Safety Committee, review the quarterly metrics, and task them to disseminate the information to Foremen and all other supervisory personnel assigned to worksites. Immediately following each meeting we generate corrective action plans, if necessary, and issue them to supervisory personnel whose division specific safety metrics are trending below our standard of excellence. Our approach to measuring the effectiveness of our safety program is aggressive and proactive, and as a result, it enables us to objectively demonstrate that we will continue to keep our family of employees safe from harm.

Some methods by which we have steadily improved our safety metrics include the implementation of the following programs:

  • Post Offer Testing policy for all newly hired employees.
  • Formal safety training in the form of OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour training for all employees exposed to construction hazards. The training is mandatory, total investment of $120,000.00 between January 2010 and June 2011.
  • Extremely aggressive approach to claims handling.
  • Daily Stretch and Bend is mandatory on all construction worksites and has nearly eliminated work related soft tissue injuries.
  • Ongoing assessments of our Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure that it is well aligned to the type of work we perform.
  • New Hire two-hour Safety Orientation Training.
  • Hard Hat date sticker system to serve as a visual tool of newly hired employees, to longer term employees. Our employees understand that if they observe an unsafe work act, they have the authority to immediately stop a worker from continuing with a work task to abate a hazard.

As we continue to work tirelessly and execute the detailed planning required to maintain a resilient safety culture, it is clear that we will take the necessary measures to keep our work family safe from workplace hazards.

Also, it is very evident that our team is driven by the cost benefits tied to accident prevention. One advantage of being an ESOP company is that we are eager to do our part to maintain the highest quality workmanship, while welcoming all opportunities to reduce the cost of insurance premiums, increase the bottom line, and ultimately grow the value of our personal ESOP accounts.

Wilson Electric Services Corp. will continue to maintain an unwavering focus and disciplined commitment to provide a successful, accident-free, and healthy place to work.
